Air Miles For Airline Tickets
There are basically two ways to accumulate airline
miles. First, if you are a frequent traveler, you can
join an airline club with the airlines that you use
often. Every time you travel, your miles are accumulated
so you can cash in miles for free trips and other
benefits.
The second way to accumulate air miles is to use a credit
card that has air mile advantages. For each dollar or
certain denomination that is charged to your card, you get a
set amount of air miles. These can then be redeemed for
travel using participating airlines.
Most of the major airlines have some sort of frequent flier
program. Each program is tailored to the individual
airline and if you are shopping around for an airline to devote
your travel to in order to accumulate air miles; you may want
to do some extensive research into all the airlines to compare
and contrast the differences in each plan. There are
certain items you may want to take into consideration before
committing to a frequent flier travel program.
Credit card miles are offered through Visa, MasterCard and
American Express. There are two basic types of credit
cards where you can earn miles. First, you can get an
airline sponsored credit card where you can earn miles or add
to frequent flier miles for a specific airline. The other
option is to use a bank credit card which allows you more
flexibility in using your accumulated miles at various
airlines.
When choosing a form of air miles there are usually
incentives and bonuses that occur from time to time. Most
programs will offer a sign up bonus of a certain number of
miles. Occasionally, you may be able to receive double
bonus miles during certain times of the year. These
things should be considered when obtaining a credit card for
air mile purchases. There are pros and cons to each type
of program regardless of the type you choose. One of the
most common complaints about using air miles to purchase
airline tickets is the number of blackout dates. This
means that frequent flier miles can only be used to purchase
airline tickets for specific times and flights. Even if
the blackout dates for certain programs are fairly liberal,
there may be a restricted number of free flight seats available
per flight. So, if there are four free seats per flight
and someone else gets the four, you may be out of luck and need
to book travel elsewhere.
Using air miles for airline ticket purchases is a great way
to use travel that is already necessary and purchases that you
are already buying for bonus trips. This is a great way
to cash in points and miles for vacation travel. So you
can have more available cash to spend on the enjoyment of your
travel as opposed to making the arrangements. Before
choosing a type of frequent flier program, it is advisable to
research the plans available on all the credit cards as well as
all the airlines to be sure the plan will suit your airline
ticket buying needs.
